THE AREA
Lochearnhead is delightfully located at the west end of Lochearn just below the wonderfully scenic Glen Ogle.

As the name implies, Lochearnhead stands at the head of Loch Earn, a 6.5 mile long east-west aligned loch which today forms one of Scotland's most important centres for inland watersports.

The remains of a crannog, a building on an artificial island near the loch's south west corner, shows there has been settlement here for at least two thousand years. Lochearnhead's real growth as a settlement came in the years after the railways arrived, helped on the way by the writings of Sir Walter Scott which popularised the Trossachs and started a tourist boom that continues unabated today.

A number of small hotels were built in the years after 1900, especially along the north shore of the loch where they could gain full advantage of the sun. The Lochearnhead Hotel and the Clachan Cottage Hotel carry on this tradition, while standing out among the significant amount of self-catering accommodation available around the loch, is the unusual thatched Briar Cottage at the east end of Lochearnhead.

From the area of Lochearnhead on the north shore of Loch Earn, cross a bridge over a river flowing down Glen Ogle, to reach the area of the village lying on the west side of the A84, which provides facilities such as the

village shops, post office and village hall. While at the very north west corner of the loch itself is the Lochearnhead Watersports Centre, which offers a licenced café as well as it’s outdoor water-related attractions. There is also a free bus service provided for pupils travelling to the nearby Strathyre Primary School.

Lochearnhead is easily accessed from the south and north by the A84/A85 trunk road from Stirling to Oban and the North. The A85 also provides an easy route to the villages of St Fillans and Comrie, with Crieff and Perth beyond. Travelling time to Stirling is around 40 minutes with Glasgow and Edinburgh approximately 70 minutes. Enjoy the best of both worlds, Scotland’s busiest cities are commutable from the rural tranquility of Lochearnhead Grove.

The village is situated in the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park which is for everyone to explore and enjoy with an abundance of outdoor activities available such as low level and hill walking, cycling, boating, golf, wildlife watching and for the more adventurous, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing and mountain biking. Throughout the year a wide variety of events also take place in the Park.

Whatever the weather, Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park offers beautiful surroundings.
